Head of Manufacturing
Ubiq Aerospace is a Trondheim-based deep tech startup on an ambitious growth journey. We develop next-generation ice protection systems and smart aerostructures for aircraft operating in the world’s harshest weather. As we industrialize our product portfolio and establish our new production site in Trondheim, we’re looking for a Head of Manufacturing with deep technical expertise and a proven track record building and scaling advanced production environments. This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of innovation, precision composites, and highly automated manufacturing.
We believe the right person is energized by hard problems and complex hardware challenges. You enjoy being close to the product, aren't afraid to get your hands dirty, and excel at turning ambiguity into structure. You’re as comfortable at the whiteboard defining long-term manufacturing strategy as you are on the floor debugging a process. You see the big picture, without missing the details.
About the Role
As Head of Manufacturing, you will own the development and execution of Ubiq’s manufacturing strategy together with Engineering leadership. From rapid prototyping and R&D support through to full-scale, high-precision production. You will lead the design, commissioning, and optimization of production lines, ensuring they meet the demands of a rapidly growing hardware portfolio.
This is a highly technical leadership role requiring hands-on capability, strategic vision, and the ability to balance manufacturability with product innovation.
What You’ll Do
Lead the end-to-end manufacturing function, spanning composite fabrication, prototype builds, NPI, and scalable production.
Design, build, and commission advanced, modular production cells and automated equipment.
Drive manufacturability improvements while protecting innovation velocity, knowing when to challenge design and when to push manufacturing forward.
Define the manufacturing vision, processes, and facility layout that will support future product families and production volumes.
Collaborate with automation partners to deploy advanced robotic and semi-automated systems that reduce variability, increase throughput, and support flexible SKU production.
Implement and maintain a robust Quality Management System aligned with Tier-1 supplier standards.
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing manufacturing team with a strong focus on precision, reliability, and continuous improvement.
What You Bring
Strong Mechanical Engineering foundation, with deep understanding of materials science and precision fabrication.
Experience with composite fabrication or advanced materials is an advantage.
Significant hands-on manufacturing experience, ideally spanning both R&D support and scaled production.
Proven track record building or commissioning production lines or manufacturing cells, preferably involving electromechanical assemblies.
Experience working with automation integrators/commissioning partners and implementing advanced automated equipment.
Ability to create a clear manufacturing vision aligned with company-level goals.
Demonstrated experience operating under a QMS and working within Tier-1 supplier standards.
Experience scaling low-volume, high-complexity hardware products with tight tolerances (e.g., composites, electromechanical assemblies, robotics, or similar).
A positive, resilient mindset and the ability to communicate clearly across engineering, production, and leadership teams.
Why Ubiq
If you want to build world-class aerospace products in an environment that values both ambition and balance, you’ll feel at home here.Ubiq is based in beautiful Trondheim, Norway, with a culture rooted in Scandinavian values: trust, humility, autonomy, and meaningful impact.
