Electronics Design Engineer
Design, build and validate the electronics at the heart of the next generation of autonomous aircraft.
Ubiq Aerospace is a Trondheim-based deep tech company on an ambitious growth journey. We develop next-generation ice protection systems, smart aerostructures and sensing systems for aircraft operating in the world's harshest environments.
We are looking for a creative, open-minded and technically strong Electronics Design Engineer to join our team. Electronic hardware for power and signals is a crucial part of our solutions, and in this role you will take ownership of electronics development from early concepts and requirements through to working, tested hardware.
You will work hands-on across the entire electronics design process, including system and circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, bring-up, debugging and validation. We are looking for someone who is comfortable designing a PCB from scratch and taking it all the way through to functioning hardware.
You'll combine individual technical ownership with close collaboration across Ubiq's multidisciplinary engineering teams. You'll contribute to decisions about future hardware needs and architectures and work alongside colleagues across different engineering disciplines to develop robust solutions to challenging problems.

What you'll do
End-to-end electronics design: Take ownership of electronic hardware from requirements and architecture through circuit design, component selection, schematic capture and complete PCB layout.
Prototyping and bring-up: Take new hardware from design files to physical prototypes, including board bring-up, debugging and iteration.
Design for manufacturing: Consider manufacturability, assembly and test from the outset, and work with manufacturing partners and colleagues to take designs smoothly from prototypes towards reliable production.
Assembly and integration: Assemble and integrate electronics & wiring into higher-level subsystems.
Testing and validation: Develop and perform testing to verify that designs meet their requirements and perform reliably in their intended environment.
Hardware architecture: Analyse future hardware needs and contribute to system architecture and technical trade-offs.
Cross-disciplinary development: Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure electronics are well integrated into the overall system.
Documentation: Document hardware designs, design choices, test procedures and results to support effective collaboration and future development.
Your background, knowledge and skills
Relevant education within electronics, power electronics, electrical engineering or a related field. Practical experience and demonstrated ability are just as important to us as the specific educational path you have taken.
Hands-on experience designing electronic hardware and taking PCB designs from an initial idea through to working hardware.
Experience with schematic capture and complete PCB layout, including component placement and routing.
Strong understanding of electronic design principles and good knowledge of analogue and digital circuits.
Ability to select components and make sound engineering trade-offs based on electrical performance, reliability, availability and other design constraints.
Comfortable bringing up and debugging newly manufactured PCBs and systematically finding and solving hardware problems.
Experience using standard electronics lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies and signal generators.
Understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM) principles and how PCB design choices influence fabrication, assembly, testability and production reliability.
Proficient in fine-pitch SMD soldering, wire crimping, and PCB modification to support rapid iteration.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills combined with a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach.
