Electronics Design Engineer - Early career

Ubiq Aerospace is a Trondheim-based deep tech company on an ambitious growth journey. We develop next-generation ice protection systems, smart aerostructures and sensing systems for aircraft operating in the world's harshest environments.
We are looking for a curious and hands-on Electronics Engineer to join our team. Electronic hardware for power and signals is a crucial part of our solutions, and this is an opportunity for someone early in their engineering career to develop broad, practical experience designing electronics that become part of real products.
You'll work hands-on across the electronics development process, including circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, bring-up, debugging and testing. You'll work alongside experienced engineers who can support your development, while being given real engineering responsibility and the opportunity to take increasing ownership as you grow into the role.
We think you might have studied electronics, cybernetics, electrical engineering or something similar. Perhaps you've recently graduated, or perhaps you already have some relevant work experience. More important to us is that you have strong engineering fundamentals, enjoy practical problem-solving and have experience designing and building electronic hardware—whether through your studies, work, student organisations or your own projects.
We're a small team, so we're looking for someone who is curious, self-motivated and eager to learn. You'll work closely with colleagues across different engineering disciplines and have plenty of opportunities to develop both the depth and breadth of your engineering skills.
What you'll do
Electronics design: Contribute to circuit design, component selection, schematic capture and PCB layout for Ubiq's electronic hardware.
Prototyping and bring-up: Take designs into the lab, helping with board bring-up, debugging, modification and iteration.
Design for manufacturing: Develop an understanding of how design choices affect manufacturability, assembly and test, and contribute to taking our electronics from prototypes towards reliable production.
Assembly and integration: Assemble and integrate electronics and wiring into higher-level subsystems.
Testing and validation: Plan and perform testing to understand how designs perform and verify that they meet their requirements.
Problem-solving: Investigate hardware issues, find their root causes and work with the team to develop practical solutions.
Cross-disciplinary development: Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure electronics are well integrated into the overall system.
Documentation: Document designs, design choices, test procedures and results so that we can learn and build on them as a team.
Your background, knowledge and skills
We don't expect you to know everything already. We're looking for strong engineering fundamentals, practical curiosity and the potential to grow.
Relevant education within electronics, cybernetics, electrical engineering or a related field.
A good understanding of fundamental electronic design principles and analogue and digital circuits.
Experience designing PCBs, including schematic capture, component placement and routing. This could come from university projects, student organisations, internships, work experience or personal projects.
An understanding of electronic components and the ability to read and interpret datasheets.
Some practical experience building, testing and debugging electronic hardware.
Familiarity with standard electronics lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and power supplies.
Hands-on skills such as soldering, wire crimping or PCB modification are an advantage.
An analytical approach to solving problems combined with a willingness to experiment, learn and ask questions.
Enjoy working hands-on and collaborating closely with others.
Experience with design for manufacturing, embedded systems, power electronics, sensors, circuit simulation or automated testing is a plus, but not something we expect you to have experience with across the board.
